Benefits of Integrating Six Sigma in QMS

The guiding principles behind ISO standards have been:
• Decisions should be based on facts
• Achieving quality through a process approach
• Continual Improvement.
Quality is a direct output of the system prevalent in an organization. An organization is able to give good quality only when quality and excellence become part of a company structure. Whatever the business activity may be, if the organization strives to achieve excellence in it, then the end product of such an activity is bound to be of good quality. Six Sigma is such a dynamic quality methodology which can be implemented universally in all the organizations and in all of their business activities.
A company which has decided to implement Six Sigma in itself should first analyze its existing structure to know which area needs improvement. Not only would this help the company to improve its processes but also fulfill its obligations under the original ISO 9001 standards of continually improving its business processes. There are multiple Benefits of Integrating Six Sigma in QMS. Business organizations which are able to achieve this become leaders in their field and are able to achieve greater productivity and profitability and fulfill customer expectations better than their competition.
Apart from the benefits to the organization, people working in such companies also become better in their jobs due to the specialized training and learning that they receive due to application of various Six Sigma methods. They are able to better understand the variations in the process due to their newly gained statistical knowledge and enable them to adhere to the quality management system present in the company.
A very important benefit of applying Six Sigma within the quality management system in an organization is the maintaining of the repository of knowledge for each project and process, as required by the Quality Management System. This knowledge related to various business activities, processes and various departments can be used by other people working in the organization for their own and company benefit. This also ensures that even when key personnel in a department or a process leave the organization, their knowledge remains behind. The business is not affected and work carries on as before which helps in the long term survival of the company in the market.
All are benefited by integrating Six Sigma in the quality management system of the company –
1)the customers are delivered with a better quality product,
2)the company is able to produce at lower costs and get improved profitability in return
3)the people working in the organization become better in their jobs and have improved knowledge levels
4)the society as a whole gets stability due to healthy business organizations giving better quality products and contributing to the society development by providing stable jobs to its employees and improving taxes to the government
